Sponsored walk to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day

The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (PWRR), affectionately known as the Tigers, was formed on 9th September 1992, marking the amalgamation of the mighty Queen’s Regiment and the Royal Hampshire Regiment.

The regiment has an illustrious history, from being one of the oldest Regiments in the British Army ( 2nd of Foot) to one of the most decorated Regiments to serve in Iraq.  One Victorian Cross, two Distinguished Service Orders, two Conspicuous Gallantry Crosses, one Member of the Order of the British Empire for gallantry, ten Military Crosses, and seventeen mentions in Dispatches.

On May 31, 1944, the Hampshire Regiment marched from the barracks to the port of Southampton, boarding ships to assault the enemy positions at Arromanches Normandy—Gold Beach.

On May 31st, 2024, in memory of the forebearer Regiment and to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, members of the Regiment walked 316 miles over six days from the Tower of London to Gold Beach, raising funds for the PWRR Benevolent Fund, Walking with Wounded, and The Normandy Memorial Fund.
